J80 Door Panel Installation Instructions
This FAQ has specific information for the J80 Door Panel Install
The 80 series door panels are installed with the same Well-Nut hardware used on all orikawa panels seen in a separate FAQ page. This page will highlight the specific installation instructions and tips for installing orikawa 80 series door panels.
Door Handle Spacers
Additional Hardware: there are 12 thick silver washers included with the door panels. These are used to 'stand off' the interior door handle to account for the extra depth of the new door panel. (Most 80 only have two screws holding the handle in place but some have 3).
When the OEM panel is removed, remove the interior door handles and place one washer between the door frame and the handle mounts and secure them in place with the OEM screws. Again, this will push the handle toward the interior of the vehicle and make the handle trim easier to install.
Panel Preparation
MOLLE Pouch
If you are installing MOLLE pouches into the tabs, it is easiest to push the tabs from the backside of the panel prior to installation. Use the handle of a screwdriver to prevent marring the finish. You can install your pouch at this time or wait until later.
Tabs can be returned to the 'closed' position from the front of the panel once installed to lock in the pouch.
It is possible to pry the tabs forward once the panel is installed but pushing from the back is recommended.
Panel Installation
Place all Well-Nuts into the necessary holes which correspond to the holes on the door panel *NOT ALL OEM holes are used* verify on the door panel which are necessary.
Place the door panel over the door frame and line it up with the holes and Well-Nuts you just placed. Put two screws in at the top of the door LOOSELY so the panel can be adjusted on top of the mounting holes. Tighten 3 screws in place to hold the panel in proper alignment. Follow up by placing and tightening all mounting screws. Refer to FAQ for Well-Nut installation if necessary.
Door Handle Trim
Install door handle trim with the tab (toward the front of the vehicle) first then the mounting screw.
Audio
Install speakers 'top-mount' by drilling into the panel with self tapping screws (not provided). Speaker hardware and installation instructions are typically provided by the speaker manufacturer.
Inner Window Felt
Clean the surface of the door frame where the inner window felt will be mounted. If mounted on a clean surface the bond will last for years without loosening.
Remove the backing from the 3M VHB tape on the inner window felt and, with the window down, slide the felt into place and apply pressure to create the bond.
