60/62 Quarter Panel Options
This section will help you determine what OEM options your truck is equipped with and how to spec your ORIKAWA replacement rear quarter panels to maximize your application
Wire Harness Pass-Through typical on all FJ60 models.
Early 60 with two doors. Bracing is aligned with quarter panel construction
Example of body bracing in an early FJ60
Wire Harness Pass-Through typical on all FJ60 models.
Early 60 1981-1985 - Driver Side - Wire Harness
Note the Rear Body Harness coming through the body over the wheel well . This is accounted for on ALL 60 series panels. Some late 60 series have this feature on the passenger side too for another Wire Loom Pass-Through.
This model would get a large and a small door to access all the space available as well as the washer fluid reservoir - unless an audio component is selected.
FJ62 and Late 60 share panel layout for door and speaker placement.
OEM Jack and Tool Roll Installed. Jack Mount requires the Quarter Panel to 'bump out' at the base
Note the different body brace spacing from Early to Late. OEM Jack Mount can be seen here
FJ62 and Late 60 share panel layout for door and speaker placement.
Late 60/62 1985-1987 - Driver Side - OEM Tool Storage
Late wagons may have an additional option for OEM Tool Storage in the Driver Side quarter panel. The Jack Mount requires the Quarter Panel to 'bump out' to accommodate it. FJ62 always has Tool Storage here. If the Jack Mount is removed the quarter panel can be made flat. One larger door is used on Late/62 due to body support location whether there is a speaker hole or not.
Refer below to determine necessity of passenger wire harness feature above wheel well (likely required).
Two Doors. No Wire Harness Pass-Through
No Wire Harness Present in the Body or Wheel Well Cover
There is <5" of space between Quarter Panel surface and outer body sheet metal. This install required a spacer ring from a custom audio shop.
Two Doors. No Wire Harness Pass-Through
Early / Late 60 1981-1987 - Passenger Side
Note the lack of wire harness over the wheel well on this EARLY 60. Despite the lack of wire harness, the OEM vinyl wheel well covers may mirror the driver side with a small additional space to account for it anyway. The important part here is to accommodate the parts you have on your truck - basically, if your wheel well cover has the same provision at the top as your driver side then select LATE 'Yes' for Wire Loom Pass-Through.
This model would get a large and a small door to access all the space available and the upper fuel / evap system unless an audio component is selected.
Takigen Latches
The Japanese Latches used on ORIKAWA panels incorporate a visual safety feature into them: when the latch is not fully closed the handle will be elevated. When the door is fully closed the handle will fall completely - no need to press the handle down, push the door.
This feature is akin to lifting the drivers door handle while closing the door when locking the vehicle - ensuring intentional operation of all parts.
